Further extension of our technique to electrode interfaces and its applications

Molecular processes at electrode/electrolyte interfaces are hardly understood, even though it is of central importance in electrochemistry. We have recently succeeded in making our advanced nonlinear spectroscopy applicable to electrode/electrolyte interfaces. In situ HD-VSFG measurements will reveal fundamental molecular processes at electrode interfaces, such as solvent orientation, change in the electric double layer, as well as ion adsorption, which depend on the electrode potential.
